At the Tom Ridge Center

Stopped at the Tom Ridge Center on a cold, sunny February afternoon.

Sunny February Day

Farm on Jericho Road; liked how the horses were backlit in photo no. 1 and the starburst shape of the sun. These photos were taken facing the sun, with no flash.

Presque Isle Bay

February 14th - frolicking families on frozen Presque Isle Bay. Landscape mode, no flash, natural sunlight and shadows.

Presque Isle State Park

Beach 1, with sun over left shoulder. No flash.

Natural Sunlight

Spent a lovely Sunday afternoon at Presque Isle State Park on February 20. No flash. The frozen dunes are glistening. Photo taken facing the sun.

LIGHTING Assignment, Photo #5

A scant inch of snow fell upon areas in Edinboro, Pennsylvania, overnight. The animals in this barn on Irish Road in Washington Township have not yet ventured outside, as the temperature hovered around zero inland.

I shot a series of barn photographs located on Irish Road in Washington Township, published in Picasa. These were taken on an overcast day on the landscape mode, 1/320 F10, ISO 100 55 mm on auto fine setting, using the natural light. I later returned on a sunny mid-afternoon, and shot several more, which are posted in the Picasa folder.

Several inches of snow fell overnight in Edinboro, Pennsylvania, as seen along Conneautte Creek, just north of Water Street Extension.

On Saturday afternoon (February 13, 2010), I took a series of winter scenery shots along various points of Conneauttee Creek, which are posted on Picasa. These were taken on an overcast day with either the portrait or landscape mode, and show the lovely shadows of the tree trunk and branches reflected onto the water. These particular shots were taken from atop the bridge next to the back of Hobbs Lumber. I especially liked the moss growing on the trunks of the trees, and the woodpecker holes in the damaged tree trunk.

Local weather forecasters call for an additional 3-5 inches of snow overnight in the City. Inland areas, such as Woods Dairy Farm in Edinboro, above, can expect even more.

Saturday, around noon, I felt impelled to stop to photograph the GOT MILK sign on the barn on Water Street Extension. While there, I took additional photos of the scenery surrounding Conneauttee Creek. The second photo was taken on an overcast day on landscape mode, 1/250, F10, ISO 125, 55 mm, on auto fine setting, using the natural light. I later returned on a sunny mid-afternoon to shoot additional photographs of the same subject (photo on top).

LIGHTING Assignment, Photo #2

Local weather forecasters call for an additional 3-6 inches of the white stuff overnight in the City; inland areas may expect 5-7.

On the way home from Humes, I turned the car on an unfamiliar back road home. I stopped behind the Fort LeBoeuf High School Athletic Field to take advantage of the awesome sunlight breaking through between clouds. It had just begun to snow again. I liked the way the sun perched atop the silo.
This bottom photo was taken on the landscape mode, 1/500, f11, iso 100, 22 mm on auto fine setting. I had to hurry through this series of seven shots, published in Picasa, because the sun was becoming too bright, and it was snowing even harder, but I was satisfied with the end results.

Is your PA vehicle inspection current? Schedule your appointment early to avoid the rush.

Learned a valuable lesson today -- make sure the battery in the camera is charged. I wasted an hour in a waiting room re-charging the battery instead of shooting photos of my car being inspected. However, I was able to take a few at Humes in Waterford on Friday afternoon after the battery was charged (February 12), utilizing the available light.
The above photo was taken with no flash, indoors, 1/30, F5, ISO 200, 18 mm, on auto fine setting, through an interior plate glass window. The photo shows the glaring fluroescent lights, and some of the natural light shining to the right of the vehicle through the exterior windows. I was intrigued by the colors (red, white, blue) and the lettering on the interior window. Several in this series are posted in Picasa.

Post-Class 2-10-10 re Lighting

The top photos were taken with no flash Rose Hall entrance.
Bottom photo: On the way home from class on Wednesday evening (February 10), I stopped at the Edinboro CVS to take the above photo, which makes use of the neon and fluorescent lights. I was aiming to capture the two signs together (GetGo and Kwik Fill) showing the $2.65 price of gas. As a bonus, the moon is peeking out between the tree branches.
This photo of the corner of Routes 6N and 99 facing northwest was taken with no flash 1/0, F5.3, ISO 800, 45 mm fine auto setting.

COMPOSITION Assignment, Photo #5

Edinboro Scots host the French National Team February 5-7.

Some of my photos show improvement at freezing people in motion, but I only captured the ball going through the basket once! In the process, the photo fails to show the EUP player who fell over at the bottom left! I did not crop or edit this photo. This photo was taken without flash, on the Sports setting, 1/60, F5.6, ISO 800, 55 mm, on the auto fine setting. I also figured out how to set the camera to auto-focus-continuous.

COMPOSITION Assignment, Photo #4

Coach Jim Glatch at Edinboro oversees the Scots during the Wheelchair Game on February 7 at McComb Fieldhouse.

Sunday (February 7) found me back on campus at McComb Fieldhouse taking photos at the Exhibition Wheelchair Game, Edinboro vs. The French National Team. This photo shows Coach Jim Glatch (standing at left) with the cheerleaders and team assistant, all in a row. This photo has not been cropped, but would benefit from removing a bit at the bottom. This photograph was taken with no flash, 1/30, F5.6, ISO 400, 55 mm, on the auto fine setting.

COMPOSITION Assignment, Photo #3

Edinboro's Baron-Forness Library served over 297,000 students during the 2008-09 academic year.

Driving home from the Men's Wheelchair Game on Friday evening, I was inspired to try taking some night photos. Our Baron-Forness Library is even more impressive after dark! This photo was taken on the Night Portrait setting, 1/4, F3.5, ISO 200, 18 mm, and I set the camera on the roof of my car for steadiness. I did not crop this photo, although the car roof shows at the bottom of this photo.

COMPOSITION Assignment, Photo #2

Coach Jim Glatch greets the spectators and families of the players in the Dome on Friday night at the EUP vs. University of Illinois Men's Wheelchair Game.

This photo was taken with no flash, 1/30, F5.3, ISO 400, 45mm, on the auto normal setting. I experimented with action shots and was able to capture some of the motion of the basketball and wheels while freezing the players. I did not crop or edit this photo.

COMPOSITION Assignment, Photo #1

Future Edinboro Scots practice at the Mike S. Zafirovski Sports and Recreation Center during the Wheelchair Exhibition Games.

Still learning the facets of the Nikon camera. Experimented with some action shots at the Wheelchair Basketball game last evening (February 5) in the Mike S. Zafirovski Sports and Recreation Center, a/k/a TheDome...and was able to catch the two young boys practicing to be future Fighting Scots! This was taken on Portrait setting, 1/40, F5.3, ISO 400, 45 mm, on auto normal setting. I did not crop or edit this photo.
